FORT LEE, NJ - UPDATE: Fort Lee Public School #3 will remain closed through Memorial Day weekend.

In a follow-up statement posted on the Board of Education web site, Fort Lee Schools Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bandlow informed parents that the school would continue to be closed until Tuesday, May 26.

With respect to the precautions and measures being taken, Bandlow stated, "Along with the Fort Lee Health Department, we continue to monitor attendance and instances of illness in all schools. This evening, every classroom in each of Fort Lee's public schools will be sanitized with a germicide and virucide as a further precaution."

The Fort Lee school district urges parents to keep their children at home if they are ill, and not to send them to after-school activities, sports, or any other group setting. If the illness includes fever in excess of 100 degrees, in conjunction with sore throat and/or cough, vomiting, diarrhea, your children should see a physician.

-- END UPDATE --

An announcement posted on the Fort Lee Board of Education web site this morning advised that the school district was closing one of its elementary schools due to swine flu.

Schools Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bandlow stated that he anticipated receiving confirmation today that a student at Public School 3 will have tested positive for H1N1 flu, and that as a result the district was closing School 3 for the day.

All other Fort Lee schools currently remain open.

"We are pleased to report that the student, who became ill with flu symptoms last week, is well and ready to return to school", Bandlow stated. "Today, we will clean and sanitize the school and continue to consult with State and local Health Departments to determine if the school will be closed beyond today."
