BREAKING NEWS: mother arrested in connection with death of Baby Victoria in Fairview

Jakeline Jimenez of Fairview, NJFAIRVIEW, N.J. - Jakeline Jimenez, age 26, the mother of Baby Victoria whose death was previously reported here on BergenNOW, has been arrested on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with Victoria's death.

According to authorities, the arrest is related to the death of her daughter, Victoria Jimenez, and came about as a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Fairview Police Department, under the direction of Chief John Pinzone, with help from the county.

As previously reported, on Sunday evening, April 4, Fairview Police were dispatched to 452 Harding Place, Fairview, New Jersey, on a 911 report of an infant not breathing. Upon Fairview Police arrival, the one-year-old infant, Baby Victoria, was found to be unresponsive and not breathing.

Baby Victoria was subsequently transported by Fairview ambulance to Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, New Jersey, where she was put on a ventilator.

Victoria was subsequently transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for further evaluation and treatment. She was kept on life support until she succumbed to her injuries on April 9.

An autopsy revealed that she had suffered numerous rib fractures which were at various stages of healing and a skull fracture. Additional tests will be performed and the final results of the autopsy are pending. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

During the initial investigation, it was determined by law enforcement authorities that the mother’s boyfriend, Yopher Andres Jimenez, was responsible for causing the injuries to the infant. After originally being charged with attempted murder, his charges were upgraded to murder.

According to authorities, the continuing investigation revealed that the child’s mother, Jakeline Jimenez, was aware of past abuse of the child at the hands of her boyfriend, but left the child in his care anyway.

Jakeline Jimenez was arrested without incident this morning at a relative’s residence in North Bergen. She has been remanded to the Bergen County Jail for default of $5,000.00 bail, and is scheduled for first appearance tomorrow, April 20, at 1:30 p.m.
